James A. "Jim" Fogarty, Sr.
December 26, 1934 - November 17, 2017
James Anthony Fogarty died Friday, November 17, 2017 at his home.
He was born in Savannah on December 26, 1934 to John J. and Helen L. Fogarty, both of whom have preceded him in death as has his brother, William L. Fogarty.
Jim was a graduate of Benedictine Military School and Belmont Abbey College. He pursued various career paths including Marine Surveying and insurance work. He retired earlier this year from DePue, Inc.
A lifelong parishioner of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, he has in recent years worshipped at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Georgia Register Fogarty; his brother, Jack Fogarty; children, Dina F. Vassil (Vince), James Fogarty, Jr. (Stacy), Brian Fogarty (Lisa), Stacey F. Freiwald (Aaron) and Kevin Fogarty (Allison); grandchildren, Andrew, Ryan, and Julia Vassil, Sean and Annabel Fogarty, Ian, Riordan, and Madeline Wexler, and Cairenn and Bridget Fogarty. Also surviving are his step-sons, David Lemley III, Matthew Lemley (Dana), and John Patrick Lemley (Julie), as well as their children, Jen, Isaac, Jakob, Isabella, Madelyn, Olivia, Max, and Lola Lemley. He was “Grandpa Jim” to all of them! Jim is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and his former wife, Jerry Decker.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Sunday, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Monday, November 20, 2017, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, The Rev. Brett Brannen, Celebrant and The Rev. Joe Smith, Homilist. Interment will follow in Catholic Cemetery. A reception will be held following the interment at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church.
In lieu of flowers please consider a contribution in Jim’s memory to St. Jude’s, the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum or Hospice Savannah.
